Samantha The Pharmacist

This week we continued our "We've Got Our i's On Careers" project and interview Samantha. Samantha works as a pharmacist at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur Illinois. Samantha went to Southern Illinois Universiy in Edwardsville. She had to do specific classes in biology and medical science to join the School of Pharmacy. Her job is like a safety officer, because she has to make sure the medicine is right that she gives the patients. She gets call from nurses and doctor call her. She picks the right and safe medicine. So the patients will become healthy again. We also learned how she has to be calm. If she's not calm she can make a lot of mistakes and give the people the wrong medicine. Samantha has to double check her work before she gives it to a doctor or nurse. She tells the nurses the right kind of mixture with the medicine for the patient. She always have to double check her work. I also learned that all medication in the hospital is her responsibility. Her first job of the day is to check and make sure the medicine the In the machine is correct. She's not only working at St. Mary's, in the evening she also gets orders from Effingham and Streeter. She works the evening shift because the hospital is open 24 hours a day. I enjoyed interviewing Samantha. I know a lot about her job and what she has to do every day. Thank you for taking time to read my blog. Have a great day!
